Discover the Mijas Pueblo Museum with us — a charming window into everyday life in rural Andalusia.
Casa Museo de Mijas spans two floors filled with objects, stories, and curiosities from times gone by. It tells the tale of ordinary Andalusians who once toiled in the fields, tended bees, made wine, and kept village life alive. During our visit, you’ll learn how the lime used to whitewash the village houses was made, how locals wove baskets from esparto grass, and how olive oil was produced from the surrounding groves. You’ll also step inside a typical Mijas home from the days before electricity and running water. But perhaps the most intriguing corner of the museum is the secret hiding place where Mijas’s former mayor once concealed himself from Franco’s forces — for an astonishing 30 years.
We’ll start our excursion together in Fuengirola and take a local bus that brings us to the heart of Mijas Pueblo in about 25 minutes. From the bus stop, it’s an easy five-minute walk to the museum, though there are a few steps along the way. After the museum visit, we’ll return to Fuengirola by the same bus.
